EU Cities for Fair and Ethical Trade - Award Ceremony

    Organiser: European Institutions

    10:30-13:00 CEST

The EU Cities for Fair and Ethical Trade Award, an initiative of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade, celebrates EU cities who champion more sustainable trade, consumption and production, thus creating opportunities for producers elsewhere.

Consumers living in EU cities can be the driving force behind changing attitudes to trade and have a positive impact on the environment and people’s livelihoods. This is why the Award aims to recognise cities working to change consumption and production patterns with the aim to create a unique platform for cities to learn, share and scale-up their sustainability initiatives. All the while contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG12 on more responsible consumption and production.

A first successful edition of the Award took place in 2018. The Belgian city of Ghent was awarded the winning title. A second winning city will be appointed in 2020.
